RAIN Final Event

Start: Friday March 24, 2017 - 10:00 am
Stop: Friday March 24, 2017 - 5:00 pm
Location: Dublin - Ireland

Extreme Weather Events and Infrastructure:

Assessing the Impacts, Mitigating the Consequence

The aim of the RAIN Final Event is to disseminate the significant achievements and results of the project. During the last three years, extreme weather events and their impacts upon land-based infrastructure in Europe have been analysed in depth with the final goal of mitigating the consequences.

Transport, energy and telecommunications infrastructure have been considered and risk mitigation strategies have been developed within a Risk-Based Decision Making Framework.

The outputs of RAIN aid decision making in the long term, securing new robust infrastructure development and protection of existing infrastructure against climate change and increasingly more unpredictable weather patterns.

The findings will be presented from alternative perspectives, including establishing thresholds for extreme weather events in the face of a changing climate, developing decision support tools for infrastructure owners and operators, crisis coordination and response planning based on recent cases, risk-based decision making, technical solutions for risk mitigation, and their implementation considering the current status of European infrastructural elements and networks.

Presenters: The presenters are research scientists, engineers and sociologists who have worked on the RAIN project. They will present, discuss and share the results of the project. At the end of the day an expert panel of stakeholders will discuss the outputs of the project in the context of the challenges which they, as owners and operators, face.

No fee:This workshop is organized as part of the RAIN project and as such no fee is required to participate. Tea/coffee and lunch will be provided on the day. However places are limited so early registration is essential.

Venue and Transportation: The workshop is  organized  in  Regent House in Trinity College  Dublin, Green College, Dublin, Ireland. Click here for directions.
