Report on the critical analysis of European documents

|
This review of present approaches is based on already known proposals for assessment of alternative materials described in papers from other EU-projects, research papers and knowledge from the United States. The international references come from USA as the use of alternative materials for road construction in this country is, like Europe, a major issue, and tech-nical and scientific efforts have been carried out for years on this topic for a broad range of materials. ...[more] |

Recommendations for future harmonised EU policies on skid resistance, rolling resistance and noise emissions

The TYROSAFE Project is a Coordination and Support Action (CSA) under the Seventh EU
Framework Programme. The project is examining the possibilities for developing harmonised
approaches in Europe to the optimisation and management of the key safety and
environmental properties of road surfaces in their interaction with tyres. The assessment of
these properties – skid resistance, rolling resistance and noise – are a different stages of
development generally and there is widely va ...[more] |

Research was undertaken into tests for identifying hazardous aspects os secoundary and/or recycled component materials under a task of the safety and environment work package of the SAMARIS project. The use of secondary materials in road construction semms to be considered by some to be the preferred method for their disposal. Howewer, such materials need to undergo a wide range of investigations to check their suitability , from simple to extensive, because of the distict properties of the mate ...[more] |

This period of the material life implies to consider short to long term interactions, which determine material's behavior and environmental effects on water, soil, ecosystems. The scope of the present document onlyconsider a the margin the road work periode, in relation to possible effects on the previously mentioned targets, but not in reltion to healt. |
TRB’s National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Web-Only Document 108: Guide for Pavement Friction examines the management of pavement friction on existing highways and explores the design of new highway surfaces with adequate pavement friction. The report also highlights the importance of pavement friction in highway safety; factors affecting pavement friction; and the equipment, procedures, and indices that may be used to quantify and report available friction. ...[more] |

The aim of the workshops was to promote wide dissemination of results from the European road infrastructure research projects (especially from CERTAIN clustered projects ARCHES and SPENS) through organisation of national workshops in mother languages and workshops attached to the major European events in the area of road research. Lack of information delivered to the end-users from the NMS and CEEC in their languages and their limited attendance to the European or international conferences are w ...[more] |

Reducing Tyre/Road Noise Emissions-Swedish situation

The potential for substantial noise reductions by measures related to tyres and road surfaces are explored.
The variation in noise level within various tyre classes was studied in [Sandberg, 2006a]. The
data compiled there seemed to be rather consistent, suggesting that if one includes several
hundreds of tyres in the tests, the variation (range) will be 6-8 dB within a certain subcategory
of car tyres and about 10 dB within the total car tyre category (category C1 in formal
tyre terminolog ...[more] |

The Tyre/Road Noise Group of Applied Acoustics started in the middle of the nineties and is lead by Prof. Wolfgang Kropp. The main focus of the research is the modelling of tyre/road interaction.
The core of the contact modelling is the approach of a numerical contact model formulated in the time-domain that was presented by Kropp in his PhD-thesis in 1992. It is based on physical relations and covers easily the frequency range of importance (i.e. up to 4 kHz) with respect to computational co ...[more] |

Regulating CO2 emissions of transportation in Europe: A CGE-analysis using market-based instruments

This paper analyzes the use of market-based emission regulation instruments to address the carbon dioxide emissions of transportation. Simulations with a static multi-region computable general equilibrium model show that including transportation into the European emission trading system is superior to a closed emission trading system for transportation or a tax-based approach. Furthermore, we show that exempting transportation from emission regulation is the most favorable approach in terms of w ...[more] |

This document covers the experimental testing of the following aspects:
- Effect of damage on permeability of a UHPFRC, with permeability and absorption tests of two different liquids (water and glycol).
- Time dependent behaviour of composite UHPFRC-concrete beams, with or without reinforcement bars of high grade in the UHPFRC overlays.
- Structural response under fatigue loading and behaviour at ultimate limit state of composite UHPFRC-concrete beams, with or without reinforcement bars of ...[more] |
