The TYROSAFE Project is a Coordination and Support Action (CSA) in the Seventh EU
Framework Programme and aims at coordinating and preparing for European harmonisation
and optimisation of the assessment and management of essential tyre/road interaction
parameters to increase safety and support the greening of European road transport. The
project has focussed on three road surface “properties” as they are referred to in this and
earlier TYROSAFE reports: skid resistance, rolling ...[more] |

The project TYROSAFE (Tyre and Road surface Optimisation for Skid resistance And Further Effects) is a Coordination and Support Action funded by the European Seventh Framework Programme. The project has addressed the lack of awareness of the importance and contribution of skidding resistance to safety, the lack of harmonised systems for comparing skidding resistance (even within member states), and the concern over conflicts with other important characteristics of road surfaces. The project, whi ...[more] |

NCHRP Report 649/NCFRP Report 3: Separation of Vehicles—CMV-Only Lanes presents
an extensive compendium of information about CMV-only lanes and examines major
issues and concepts that should be understood in developing new applications of CMV-only
lane concepts as a potential method for both easing congestion and reducing the number of
traffic accidents on highways. Appendices to this report, including an annotated literature
review, performance evaluation criteria, benefits monetizat ...[more] |

Over a period of up to seven years, the tyre/road noise and the pavement texture of low-noise road surfaces were measured on a series of up to 21 full-scale sites situated in urban areas with a speed limit of 50 km/h. The study involved a wide range of noise reducing asphalt mixtures, including semi-dense macro rough asphalt AC MR and porous asphalt PA. It has been shown that the acoustic performance decreases asymptotically as a function of traffic volume. For PA the decrease can be delayed pro ...[more] |

CEDR tasked its project group ‘Capacity and Service to Road Users’ to come up with a definition of the term ‘network operations’ (NetOp) and, based on this definition, to develop new ideas that could be incorporated into the way the National Road Authorities (NRAs) work.
For the purposes of the following definition of the term ‘NetOp’, the provision of services to the customer/road user is considered to be the core task of NRAs.
Network Operations is the del ...[more] |

Background
ITS components account for approximately 10 per cent of the investment cost of a typical major road construction project. In terms of the lifecycle of the road, however, ITS accounts for a substantially higher proportion of investment costs. This is due to the fact that ITS components have a much shorter lifecycle and much higher maintenance and operation costs (up to 20 per cent p.a. of the total investment cost) than other road construction elements (1-2 per cent p.a. of the total ...[more] |

Contexte

Background
During many years bridges have been built under the management of SRSA (Swedish Rescue Services Agency) in among other countries Angola, Honduras and Afghanistan. These operations have been appreciated by the UN, Sida (Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency), and the countries where the bridges have been built. As a result there have been inquiries about continuous bridge building operations, not the least after the damages caused by the Tsunami on 26 December 2004.
