CERTAIN is a Coordination Action funded by the Directorate-General for Research under its Sustainable Surface Transport priority. Its aim is to facilitate integration of the EU New Member States (NMS) and other Central and Eastern European countries (CEEC) into the established research and development community of the European Union. Its main objectives are: To provide a platform for coordinated work and efficient dissemination of results of on-going EC research projects on road infrastructure, particularly those dedicated to the New Member States: SPENS on pavements and ARCHES on highway structures. To reinforce links with stakeholder in NMS and CEEC by organising workshops and providing project deliverables in their own languages. To set the route for more efficient incorporation of partners from NMS and CEEC in the future European research by organising training courses for the research project managers.

Within work package 4 of the CERTAIN project, the main objective was to foster and organise clustering and knowledge sharing, support cohesion and promote excellence in Central and Eastern European Countries. The FEHRLopedia was developed to support this objective by providing a common place for dissemination and exploitation of results of clustered projects in all languages. For more information on how to use the FEHRLopedia, please see the newly  developed "FEHRLopedia Manual". In line with knowledge transfer and dissemination, a separate flyer on FEHRL’s practices, provides an overview of the different possibilities FEHRL has available in “Knowledge Dissemination and Trainings”.

The annual conference of the European Construction Technology Platform (ECTP) was held this week in Brussels.  FEHRL played a substantial role with presentations of five projects and contributed to the initiative to create a specific Task Force on Infrastructures.

Agnieszka Lukasiewicz of IBDiM Poland has been awarded the Silver Badge of Honor of the Scientific Society for Organization and Management (TNOiK) Poland.

The final seminar of the ARCHES and SPENS projects took place in Ljubljana on 27 – 28 August 2009. The two projects, which mainly focused on the road and bridge infrastructure needs of NMS and Candidate Countries of the EU, have now officially ended (31 August 2009). The seminar itself was a huge success attracting 120 people from across Europe and one representative of SHRP 2 USA. The audience, through the presentations, were provided with the objectives,  results and  achievements of the projects.
